Integration of legal advice and strategy in human resources matters is an essential aspect of the In-House Counsel’s role in a modern organization.  Often, General Counsel is expected to tackle complex and highly specialized human resources issues.

In this new, much requested program, we focus on guiding In-House Counsel to address common issues in the human resources portfolio, including practical and compliance matters, legal triage, and professional/ethical considerations.

In this program:

  1. You will learn how to effectively identify and triage specific HR-law matters to minimize exposure and manage risk.
  2. We will discuss best practices and strategies for guiding an organization from within in HR matters, including terminations, managing human rights accommodations, responding to demand letters and more.
  3. We will wade into the murky waters of internal harassment and other common HR investigations, discussing topics from maintaining privilege to effectively guiding the investigation and result, including when In-House Counsel acts as investigator.
  4. You will hear from a panel of In-House Counsel from a cross-section of industries and sectors, including:
    • Kelly McDermott, Regional Labour and Employment Solicitor, Region of Durham
    • Leslie Rosenthal, Corporate Counsel, SYNNEX Canada
    • Matt Shyba, Associate General Counsel, AutoCanada
    • David Watkins, Director Legal & Risk Management - Commercial Project Director, Solutions & Installation, Mammoet Wind
    • (Participation and views expressed are their own, not their employers')
  5. And much more.
